Jason Bourne, James Bond, Lara Croft, Indiana Jones, Sherlock Holmes and Ellen Ripley.
What do all these heroes have in common? They all have a problem to solve. From memory loss to trying to stop the world from falling into evil hands (again!). Our heroes begin their journey with a problem.
Your website visitors begin their journey with a problem. If you run a legal practice, chances are your website visitor has a legal problem. If you sell widgets, your visitor is likely to be looking to buy widgets. If you’re a florist, your visitor wants flowers.
Your website visitors are the heroes of the story, and heroes have problems.
When you’re designing your site, be upfront and tell them what you do. Don’t make them guess with vague-but-catchy statements like “We build relationships!” (Are you a matchmaking site? An educational establishment? A psychiatrist?).
Instead. tell the hero you understand their problem and can help them fix it. That’s why they visited you and that’s what they want to hear. Tell them why it matters and what difference it can make.
Problem : need flowers delivered asap.
“We have stunning bouquets for all occasions and budgets, same day delivery, just order and consider it done!”
Heroes need solutions because just like all of us, they have problems.
When you’re designing your website, remember the hero, remember why they arrived at your front door, tell them you can help and show them in.
