The Short Sweet Offer

In short

Visitors skim rather than read. After your top section and your trust signals, sum up what you offer in a few short bullet points, such as local, trusted, budget friendly and free quote, instead of one long paragraph.

Have you noticed that people’s attention spans are limited these days. Call it the Tik-Tok generation if you want, but there’s an important concept we need to discuss if our website is going to get and hold people’s attention.

GET TO THE POINT

People don’t want to hunt around for what you do and we addressed this in our hero section – “This is what we do, this is what it means for you.”. We reinforced this by trust elements (Google reviews, testimonials). Now it’s time to reinfornce the former. But don’t launch into a lengthy dissertation, use bullet points to bring home the message. Short. Sweet.

Let’s get back to our painter. Just below the testimonials, we could do something like this…

Example painter website homepage crowded with too much text below the headline

But you’re asking people to read 1 big boring paragraph. It’s got some good points, but we don’t read anymore, we skim. So let’s make it brief and easy to quickly pick-up the main points.

Example website homepage with a painter rolling a wall and a headline for budget-friendly interior painters

Even if someone only reads the bullet points, they’ll get the gist of what we do – local business, trusted, budget friendly, free quote. That’s it.  We’ve reinforced the hero message and that’s what we’re trying to do, but in a short, snappy, skimmable way.
